This seems really odd to me to write a note like this to you guys. I, along with 4 or 5 other marines joined 7th Comm early in July, 67. I served at a Radio Relay Site at Dong Phouc (the ROC Brigade) with Chuck Staley and Art Seifert for several months. I served in "Systems Control" for a couple of months and I was billited at Headquarters Company 1st Marines at DaNang for several months. While at DaNang I worked for MSgt Ken Rogers and I was all over the country hauling parts and paymasters to 26 Radio Relay Teams. Lt Col Cleland was our Battalion CO. During my 13 months and 10 days I am sure I worked with many of you guys; J R Kelly, J D Cathcart, Sgt Stone, Bonamarte, Andy Helton, Don Chick, Charlie Grigg and many others. The last 38 years have not been easy. When I rotated to the world I was sent to 29 Palms where I was told that the battalion had been wiped out on the way to Phu Bai in mid August. I felt like hell thinking you guys were all gone. I now have this site to thank for renewing my mind and heart. I hope to be at the reunion and see you guys. I still have trouble remembering names but I hope I can see many of you and renew old friendships.

Hi Bill You were probably one of he Marines who replaced me. I was one of the original in 7th Comm. when they were shipped to Vietnam in 1966 and left in early July 67. I also served 43 days with the 2nd ROK Marines. I also have a hard time remembering names but after finding this website hope to renew old friendships and make new. Good luck to you and Welcome Home Charles Dalton

Charles (Chuck), Bill Harris here. We served together!!! I rotated back to the world on August 3, 1967. And, as a mater of fact I was at 2nd ROK Brigade from Thanksgiving Day 1966 till March 12, 1967 with a Radio Relay team that consisted of Chuck Staley, Art Seifert and me. We were located at a communications site with a four man army team. They had the neat equipment but we kept ours working ALL THE TIME. I just looked back at my original message and I see an error in it. The original has an incorrect date for me joining 7th Comm. I actually arrived when we were still on the beach in July, 1966 not 1967. I'm like you... I have a hard time remembering names but yours seems familiar. Were you with Radio Relay or which other part of 7th Comm? I'm looking forward to hearing from you. I'm still putting old memories back in my head and while some could have just stayed where they were a lot of old friendships are coming back to my mind. The reunion was a real special time. Lots of our guys were there and we really enjoyed getting together again. Man... if you get a chance to attend one of the reunions it is well worthwhile. Looking forward to hearing from any of you guys. Bill Harris

Reading some of these names helps me come up with some which may strike a note with you guys. I issued 782 gear out of HQ Co. Gunner Chapin was my boss along with Gunny Thurlkill. This was in 29 Palms in 65 I think. Col. Byrd was Bn. commander.

Jim, The day I was issued my 782 gear you guys gave it to me out of a con-ex box on some hill overlooking the strip at Chu Lai. It was all brush then but I think it is where we moved when we left the beach. Man do I remember Major Byrd. I seemed to me all he ever wanted to do was lock me up. I did not know of him until RVN but he seemed to know me. Honest... I didn't do anything really bad!!! Good to hear from you. I don't get to this site as often as I would prefer but there is always something interesting when I do. Bill Harris

Bill, d**ned if I can remember your face. Or at least your face at that age. Chuck I can picture, the funny little dogs and the Army guys at the ROC. Remember Sgt Kim of the Koreans, who always got us our beer? I met and married my wife in Columbus, small world isn't it.

Art, I was the skinny kid and my face then is not the face now anyhow. I have never forgotten you and Chuck. The time at the ROKs was long ago and far away but friendships formed, even then, will never be forgotten. I will contact you at your e-mail address. Perhaps we can get together some time. Bless you old friend, Bill Harris
