1968-1969 7th comm battalion hill 34,taskforce hotel key sahn, lz stud, quang tri, dong ha anyone out there? I was with 7th Comm Bn. starting in late March 1968 on Hill 34. I was assigned to 7th Comm Spt. Co as a 2542, CommCtrMan. I was very lucky as I got meritorious promos out of Boot Camp and Comm school. So, when I got to Nam was already an E-4 Corp. They didn't know what to do with me. lol. I couldn't run a watch at comm ctr as I didn't know squat. They sent me tdy to the bridge over the Song Cau Do River as security, which was rebuilt after being blown during TET. Then, I went back to Hill 34 for awhile and was assigned as Corporal of the Guard. I was down in S-3 Bunker with Sgt of Guard. I monitored the radio of the patrols that went out every night to set ambushes and Lp's. In May we received several 122 mm rockets. One was a direct hit on our metal building used for supply. In June, one of our night patrols got ambushed themselves killing 2 guys and wounding one. We sent out the reactionary force but VC long gone. I was pretty close to those guys as I was billeted in the same hootch as patrol people. Finally I went to where I spent the most time in VN, with the 2nd Korean Marine Brigade outside Hoi An, d**n near on the beach of SC Sea. I worked 12 on, 12 off in the Comm center there. It was such a skating job that I extended for 6 mos. Then in Nov 69 they started pulling us out of Nam. 7th Comm had moved by then to near China Beach. I was only there for a few days and then it was off to Okinawa to rotate home. I got home on Dec 7th, landing at Travis AFB in Calif. They then sent me to MCRD in SD before I was discharged in Feb 1970. What a long strange trip it was...

Hey Al...finally saw your reply to my post. I knew Hartzell, he was in my comm class at MCRD. Saw him briefly at hill 34...good guy, he used to sit outside in his skivvies hoping to get bit to hell by skeeters and get malaria...lol. Cecil Byrd was with me out at Koreans. From Mississippi and son of a pastor, I think. He hated the poster of Mick Jagger we put up in our hootch. Strictly a C&W music fan. I found Cecil on Together We Served (TWS). That was about 5 years ago. He is a retired cop and in Florida I think. Anyhow, I'm out here brother, Semper Fi!

I was with 7th comm. during Tet.I remember a guy named Benny Babijich. I don't know if I am spelling your name right. He and I got a homemade Playboy bunny tattoo. Is that you? And I remember them coming through the wire that night you discussed.

Michael Warren I have been trying to locate you for several years. Our last meeting was in Bloomington Il. in 1982. Ben and I have been friends for a number of years, I met him several years ago at a 7th Comm. reunion. The first time I met him was in the Supply Building while I was visiting you. I was getting ready to go out on a night ambush patrol and, if you remember we had a little problem with a grenade. I just messaged Ben and asked him about the tattoo. Anyway would like to make contact with you. If you would like email me at wm.shank12@gmail.com

Jim, I was with RR & Const Co. RR plt 7th Comm at Camp Schwab in 1971. I remember a CPl. Jimmy Bedeau aka 'Budda', a L/cpl Martz, L/cpl. Berscheid, L/cpl Stone, a cpl. that was actually an Egyptian national and also a chemical engineer, Lcpl Helmezi, Cpl Fredrickson, Lt. Sommerville who shot a hole in the Col.'s floor with a .45 at the change of the OOD. Lcpl Revere, Remember driving the M-37 trucks all over Okinawa, Remember a typhoon hitting Oki and staying in the barracks for a couple of days. Of course Bar Pink and Henoko Village. Big Shot was the call sign of the field excersizes we went on. I think I joined 7th comm the day after they moved from Hansen to Schwab. I remember spending one day at Hansen then being taken to Schwab. Remember any of this stuff? Bob, Cpl. Lorenz at that time. Bob, it's been awhile-just barely survived Obama's "recession". I was assigned with LCpl Berscheid, LCpl Salvucci, and Pvt Brown in the Generator section. And I remember the Cpl. who was Egyptian. I was only at Camp Schwab for a month or 2 before the big move to Camp Hansen right by the north gate in 1971. Kin ville was much better than Henoko! That summer of 1971 at Hansen we were in a 3 day barracks lockdown for a typhoon. We in the generator section set up gensets by Battalion HQ, and in between Company barracks, and strung safety ropes so that we could service them during the storm. I remember Cpl Pearson in the Company office, and the hated SSgt Setlock. Capt. Hunt was the CO. Others were Ferne, Laslo, Wilson, Margraf, Hunn, Green, Russell, Stamp, McNally, Goodwin, Boyajin, and Race. Lance it is now July 1 of 2020 and I came across your post from long ago. I rotated back to the States before 7th Comm. moved back to Camp Hansen, back to Cherry Point Naval Air Station to MWCS-28 to finish out my last 10 months or so in the USMC. I also survived Obama's "recession" and now trying to survive the Covid 19 epidemic. I do not remember any of the Marines you mention at the end of your post, perhaps they were in the Hqts. section. This was all so long ago, and now I find it hard to believe I am over 70 years old. If you happen to see this I hope you are enjoying a good and prosperous life. Bob Lorenz USMC Sgt. a long time ago

I was assigned to 7th comm entering in country September, 1969. Spent the entire year on a ROK artillery base near Hoi An. Never had a shower or anything other than C rations. No information or contact with anyone. Had an E5 and 2nd Lt the first month and they disappeared and that was it. They were kind enough to drop in a pallet of Hamms beer on occasion. Semper Fi
