i remember being among a detachment sent from chu lai to hill 29 for about 3 weeks. a big red headed fellow from texas, i think his last name was pullen (he was a school teacher like me), were assigned to a 50 cal for the entire excursion. pullen and i got this assignment by proving our stupidity that we could break the 50 cal down and put it back together faster than any other pair of guys. later when 7th comm moved to danang, about ten of us were left as a comm detachment with 7th eng just outside the main enterance to the chu lai base. lt. tanaka was the officer in charge. sgt husky was the guy with clearance for the encription machines. we were still seperated from the outfit at the time of the tet offensive of 68. would like to hear from any one who remembers these times. looking forward to the reunion. just learned about this site and the reunion today 3/24/05.

Well, Cpl. Weeden! How do you do? If I remember correctly, it was Operation Cochise that was on Hill 29. I'm pretty sure that was the Operation in '67. At least that's what my service record indicates. I also remember Task Force XRay. Have you ever run into or heard about Cpl. Dave Ringquist?

Man... this is great!!! I finally see something on this corkboard from somebody I remember like Al Weeden, I also remember Pullen and the stuff Bowden makes reference to. I am Bill Harris from Radio Relay (the other Harris, not Doc). I left RVN a couple of days before you guys left Chu Lai for DaNang. I am always amazed at the people I run into that were in the army and a part of Task Force X-ray. To fill in some blanks, my memory sucks too; I have no idea which site was Hill 29. Was that the site at the end of the strip in Chu Lai or where the comm center was on the bluff overlooking the South China Sea? By the way, I will be back in RVN from 6 Jan thru 18 Jan 2006 - Hanoi (never thought I'd be there unarmed), Hue, DaNang, Chu Chi and Saigon as a mission trip for the United Methodist Church. Could not get to Chu Lai or Dong Phouc for you guys that remember the Korean Marines. I keep reminding myself that we were winning when we left that place. Perhaps we can begin a new victory with our faith as the tool of warfare.
