I am writing on behalf of Tim. Tim served in Vietnam with 7th comm. from 1968-1969. He sustained an injury to his back. He fell from a telephone poll. They had gotten hit the night before (rocket attack) when putting cable up.
He is hoping to find someone to write a letter of support to verify he fell.
He is also very interested in the reunion!
please email him at rattlegator48@yahoo.com.

I remember the burning of the crappers and stiring those barrels, i remember the rolling of my stomach as the ho chi minn trots came a calling, i remember the patrols and how alert I was back then. I remember our perimeter and the large tank that anchored it. I remember that we sweated in the shower and that we stayed wet all the time. I remember the places where we sought the comforts of back home and when freedom hill was leveled. I remember the firefights and the flares that lit up the night sky, sandbags, wire the red dirt and the smell. I remember that we sat right in the middle of marble and monkey mts but no more.jb

I got to Nam in Dec. '68. I'm sorry I don't remember much activity until Tet (Feb. 69) as far as any real fighting going. I was on a shot near Phu Bia and we received word that Hill 34 had be overrun, but fortunately the fine Marines there repelled the attack. When I returned to Hill 34 (I think in late Mar. or early April), things pretty much calmed down. Much of the damage had been repaired.
Later that year I myself was on patrols but we didn't see any action. We had one guy shot by friendly fire during my time on patrols. Un fortunately I can only remember a few of the guys I patrolled with. Gary Carman was my radio man, a guy we called Champ and a guy named Brodie alternated between point and Drag. I was a new Cpl. at the time and was the leader of half the guys and we had a Sgt. ?? who was the leader over all of us . He took half the patrol out one direction and I took the other half the other direction. Does anyone remember anyone else who were on patrols at this time; I think it was during June or July, but I spent two periods on patrols and can only hope I'm note mixing the two groups up. I hope you can remember, but there was a fng about 175 lbs with those big ugly black rimmed glasses, buck teeth that could eat squash between a picket fence and scared to death. He was from Ky and probably the most inept Marine there ever was. Would you happen to remember that guy. He came out of the fray ok and Vietnam with but a little schrapnel in his right knee.. He also was the same guy standing on top of the LZ with nothing on but his underware and caring a magazine of ammo and a knife. If you do then I say welcome back brother.jb

I was with 1/11 on Hill 34. We supplied men to the patrols mentioned. I did the patrols in September 1968. There was a Marine from 7th Comm killed by friendly fire on 9/21/68. I do not see his name on the memorial. His name was Lcpl Michael Nystul, Hq 7th Comm. I have the info if anyone is interested. My name is Ron Taylor
